Hemlock Pond
Hemlock Pond (14 acres) is a man-made lake in Walpack Township, Sussex County. It is in the Delaware Gap National Recreation Area. Calling Hemlock Pond pretty is an injustice. For a paddler, the pond is more like a preview of paradise. The water is crystal clear. There are no weeds. The surrounding forest is wonderfully wild. Surprisingly, there is no sign of beavers.
If you want to visit Hemlock Pond, be prepared to hike. The shortest route starts at the Crater Lake parking lot (note: only open on weekdays) and goes up over the mountain. The trail is well maintained, but not easy. It will take approximately 45 minutes to get to the pond.
Getting There
The trail from Crater Lake to Hemlock Pond is quite pretty.
